Caring is…

First off, hello, okay, okay, let me address the elephant in the room. I KNOW, I dropped off the face of the earth; what can I say graduate school is demanding, but hey, you’re reading this right now, so we’re good, right? Thanks, I really appreciate it. On to the blog.

I know we all remember that phrase we learned, sharing is caring, and hey, it is, but maybe it’s more. Maybe it’s listening, a smile, holding the door open, maybe just maybe it is the million and one things that we don’t think about that can genuinely make a difference for someone else. I am a firm believer that small things can make a big difference. Sometimes just taking the time to genuinely listen to someone, scratch that, even just being there when someone needs can make a bigger difference than you imagine. I mean, think about it; one reason G-d’s love and presence are so powerful is that it’s just there, all the time. In fact, often in the most powerful moments in His Presence, just knowing that He is there is what changes the atmosphere, without anything more. I think the general principle can apply to our relationships with one another also.

“Be kind, for everyone is fighting a hard battle.” Life is never easy, ever……..EVER, but the good thing is being kind does not have to be a big production. I mean, when you can make a meaningful grand gesture, go for it. Kindness comes in all kinds of forms. However, most often, it is the smallest things that make the biggest difference. Case and point, one time in community college, I can’t remember all the details, but I think I just was not having a great day, and then I dropped the lunch that I had just paid for in the school cafeteria. Okay, don’t judge, I started to cry (like I said if I remember correctly, it was more than just the lunch), but this random person saw how upset I was and offered to buy me lunch. I didn’t accept the offer, but I still remember it. I never met that person before, never seen them since, and heck, I do not even remember their face, but I still remember how kind they were. Another example, me and my mom were at a bingo game for families, I think I was six years old, and this complete stranger leans over and asked us if we wanted his BINGO. I mean, what!! Again, I didn’t have any lengthy, in-depth interaction with this person, but I still remember what they did. All this to say, it isn’t hard to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Practically, it can be very simple.

What about just asking, “How are you,” with the intent to truly listen to what is happening in their life, or you know that color that really makes someone’s eyes pop? Why not tell them. Come on, that second option would not take you more than ten seconds, and you might just make someone’s entire day. As believers, we are called to be G-d’s hands and feet, and one of the most potent things about Yeshua’s (Jesus) ministry was the way He cared and took time for individuals, the man born blind, the woman with the issue of blood, and so many more. If we rely on His strength and just put in a little effort, we could make a whole a lot of difference. Well, that’s it, my two shekels. Thanks for reading!! Don’t forget to like and share.
