Preparation Is Key

Hey Guys,

I hope you all are enjoying the gorgeous summer weather. Recently I have been doing a lot of prep work, which got me thinking about preparation; I thought I would give you a few practical tips on preparing for those important things in your life.

Tip #1 – Start from your goal and work backward

One way to make sure that you are fully prepared is to think about where that preparation will lead first. Doing this helps you start to think about everything that needs to happen before reaching that goal, which could lead to smaller, more manageable sub-goals. For example, if you intended to redo a room in your house thinking backward, you could identify smaller goals like cleaning and clearing the room, painting, and redecorating with new furniture. The point is thinking about the end result can make the preparation less overwhelming

Tip # 2 – Give yourself a timeline or at least plenty of time

When you hear timeline, you imagine a gorgeous schedule sheet that requires you to plan things down to the minute, but what I am talking about is more of a general guideline. A timeline can be as simple as giving yourself two weeks to prepare and doing something to work towards your goal each day. Even if you don’t need a timeline in your preparations, it is always good to give yourself more time than you think you’ll need. I don’t know about you, but I often find that I sit down to do something, thinking that it will take one amount of time to find that it takes much more time than I anticipated to see the task through. However, this is usually not an issue because I have started working on the project (usually something for school) far enough in advance so I can spare the extra time.

Bonus Tip – When thinking about time, allow time for busy days when you can’t do as much as you want or for when you don’t feel like doing whatever it is you have to do. The whole point is to think about time realistically so that you won’t be caught off guard.

Tip # 3 – Be consistent and diligent until you have finished all the prep work

While this tip seems really simple, it cannot be overemphasized. If you don’t keep preparing little by little until the job is done, you push everything off, leaving what feels like a million things to do till the last minute, and you unprepared.  Even if you have the mad ninja skills to do everything last minute, you can save yourself from stress and, most likely, sleep deprivation by being diligent. Like the story says, slow and steady wins the race.

Well, that’s all I have for now. I hope you find these tips helpful. As always, please like and share this blog and feel free to comment below.

I’ll leave you with this verse from Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy 12:7 – “There you will eat in the presence of ADONAI your God; and you will rejoice over everything you set out to do, you and your households, in which ADONAI your God has blessed you.”
