The Thoughts of a Sore Thumb

My name is Abigail and for some crazy reason I’ve decided to start a blog. And you? Well you for some even crazier reason have decided to read my blog. Thanks!!

As you may have guessed by this point this is my first blog and what better way to begin than by explaining the outrageous name. Maybe, its just me but I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase “stick out like a sore thumb”. That is me. That’s so totally me. I am a sore thumb and if you’re reading this, I hope you are too.

You may be asking, “Wait did this lady just call me a sore thumb?” No, not exactly. What I am saying is that I often feel awkward because like everyone on planet earth, I have quirks and issues that sometimes make me feel out of place. A real shocker. More important than this is the fact that as a follower of Yeshua (Jesus) I do stick out. However, while I may stick out, I know I have a home in the arms of a loving Father and amazing G-d.

That’s what this blog is for to share my thoughts, the thoughts of a sore thumb, about faith, life, fun, and occasionally school (just because I’m still a college student). Thoughts filtered through the reality that we have a heavenly Father who gave everything, including His only & beloved Son, to know me, to know you. I hope this blog will be able to remind everyone, myself included, that although we may feel out of place and will even stand out from time to time, we are never alone. We have a Heavenly Father who accepts us just as we are -quirks, flaws, and all. Isn’t that a relief. We also have a community of like-minded believers who are doing their best to be in the world and not of it, to reflect the light and love of Yeshua, and share the Good News. One might even call this a community of sore thumbs. Or not, maybe that’s just me. The point remains that this blog will also serve to, hopefully, bring this community together to build each other up.

Before I end with the original poem that inspired the name of the blog, I would like to give a brief overview of what the blog will cover. To the best of my abilities I will try to post once a week, four times a month. Each week will fall under one of four categories: faith, fun, life, or school. Each of these topics will have their own sections on the blog (as seen above) with the exception of school which will be under life.

Faith, as you can guess, will discuss a spiritual truth or a passage of Scripture. I might even go crazy and do both. However, I hope that all of my posts will be seasoned with grace, so to speak. Fun, will cover family-friendly activities, reviews of movies, holiday traditions, or in other words, anything and everything that fits the title. Life, well that will be for whatever may come up and as school is a big part of my life right now, I will be covering topics related to college and the world of education in this section as well (yikes!).

Thoughts of A Sore Thumb by Abigail C.

Sometimes I feel like a sore thumb

Like I stick out from a mile away

And as I walk the halls, I worry about what they may think and wish my heart to these feelings was numb

What do they call me? What do they think?

Would it make my skin blush pink?

So sometimes I feel like a sore thumb, like I don’t fit in …

Yet all of the time my Maker reminds me of His immense love towards me

And all of the sudden I can breathe again He gently and firmly reminds me who I am

And though I sometimes stand apart, I never stand alone

That in His arms and heart I have found myself a home

He pushes me beyond “I” to put you before me

And spread His love to all humanity

…even the sore thumbs
